At the time of its discovery Comet Hale-Bopp was some 250 times brighter than Comet Halley at the
same distance. It won't even reach perihelion, it's closest approach to the Sun, until April 1997. How big is it? Our best
estimates put its nucleus at about 40 kilometers (25 miles) in diameter. Comet Halley's nucleus, by comparison, is 15 kilometers
long by 8 kilometers wide. The current orbital elements for Comet Hale-Bopp suggest that it last visited our neighborhood
of space some 4200 to 4500 years ago. However that number is speculative since any number of unknown events in the last
seven millennia could have "disturbed" Comet Hale-Bopp's orbit.
Comet Hale-Bopp will be remembered as one of the most
spectacular comets of the 20th century. There are a number of reasons this is so, not the least of which is that the comet
holds the all time record for length of time it was naked eye visible (19 months).
However, as bright as the comet
was, it's source of fame lies in the treatment the comet received by the mass media. As a result, an astounding 81% of all
Americans (USA) saw the comet with their own eyes according to a survey conducted by Maricopa Research and quoted in Sky &
Telescope magazine. Unfortunately it will also be remembered for it's association with the death of 40 Heaven's Gate cultists
in Southern California. These misguided souls were influenced by the rumor of a Saturn-Like-Object following the comet. Halebopp.Com
played a big role, along with other Web sites and astonomers around the world, in debunking the "Companion Myth".
Comet
Hale-Bopp was the most photographed comet in history. An army of amateur astronomers armed with CCD cameras as well as traditional
film cameras recorded millions of images of the comet, not to mention the unknown number of pictures taken by everyone else.
The Comet Album here at Hale-Bopp. Comet Hal-Bopp's dramatic visual display, as demonstrated in the album, fueled the fire
of media around the world.

I discovered the
satellite photo of Jesus last year on LeAnne Selcer's Web site. Her e-mail address is 4yeshua@bellsouth.net. I am copying
her on this in case I mess up the story.
Here's the story as I remember. LeAnne got it from an elderly lady and dear
friend named Violet ("Mom"). Mom personally knew the evangelist who was given the photo, in England, I believe. His name was
Jim Sepulveda, who seemed to have a powerful anointing on his life. He once clinically died, saw Jesus, and came back to life.
Jim says the One he saw while dead is the same as the One in the photo! He recognized Him immediately! LeAnne actually sent
me a video testimony of Jim, telling how he got the photo, his death experience, etc. Videos may still be available at The
11th Hour Television Ministry, P.O. Box 4848 Modesto, CA 95352. This is where Jim was interviewed. Just ask for Jim Sepulveda's
testimony.
Mom has been extremely ill, I am told. But here is an excerpt of an e-mail I received from her last year,
speaking of Sepulveda.
"Jim got the Jesus picture 1986 or 87 and he died March 28th, on a Monday 1994 ... I did not
get the picture until a few years after 1987 , I was in a meeting and Jim shared about the picture and said, "I do not know
why I am sharing this but I will", then he told us the story about the picture and he also stated that if anyone wanted the
negative or a picture to meet with him and his friend after the meeting,, I just knew I would have to stand in line far too
long for my sore feet, but to my amazement, out of 350 people I was the only one in line...It was sent to me by Jim's friend
Don Martin..."
Mom speaks highly of Jim's credibility and expresses no doubt as to the photo's authenticity. Mom still
has a Web site. The address is http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/5223. If anyone gets an update on Mom's health,
please let me know.
God bless you
